Screen printing workshop at La Picota prison | Made in Jail
Today was an experience we will never forget and we will fight to ensure that it is not our last visit to La Picota prison.
Thanks to @soy_libertina and its leader @_ana_maria_avila_ for explaining the systematic problem behind Colombian prisons, for taking us and introducing us to such wonderful people and reminding us that we all deserve forgiveness.
It is very easy to point the finger when you are not part of the root of the problem, but the reality is that the issue of crime in Colombia goes far beyond the police or employment.
To a large extent, it is access to education and how we treat ourselves that is the cause of the problem.
It was an honor today to be able to contribute a small grain of sand and do what we can all do, without exception, share what we know, spread our passion, inspire others, in this case it was by doing a workshop on our favorite medium, screen printing.
It is impressive to see the number of inmates seeking to vindicate themselves in society, to be good at something, to undertake something, to contribute, but who do not know how, when or with whom to start.
If you want to be part of the initiative and support this campaign, we will soon be launching a #MadeInJail t-shirt in our online store , printed on the pillory. The funds generated will be used to buy new supplies and machinery for the self-managed workshop at the prison.
More information in the coming days, for now help us spread the word and follow @soy_libertina to stay informed.
